Crimson Silhouettes for Saxophone Quartet

$20.00

Crimson Silhouettes was written for the Carmesí Saxophone Quartet in Spring of 2021. During the compositional process of this piece, I let the quartet lead the discussion about the piece's meaning, its content and what I consider the hardest part of writing, finding a title! Here are some notes from Carmesí:

“When Carmesí was naming this piece, we had few things we were reminiscing on at the time. With 3 of our members graduating this coming year, it really set in that this part of our journey is almost over. We wanted the name to be a testament to what our group had done. We derived the name of our group from the word Crimson in Spanish. Thus, we felt it was perfect to put it in the title of the piece. Of course, the name "Crimson" did not feel complete in a sense. As we thought about the title, we always talked about leaving a legacy behind so others can build off the foundation we created. Just like that, the word "Silhouettes" came to mind. We used this word, because even after we are gone, the memory of Carmesí will live on in people's hearts and minds. They may not remember our faces or names, but they will always have the image of us. Just like Silhouettes.

That is how the title of the piece, Crimson Silhouettes, came to be.”
