Rotations II for Saxophone Ensemble

$40.00

Rotations II (2021) is the second piece in a series of pieces based on a cyclical harmonic progression around the entire circle of fifths. My inspiration for this piece was the passage of time and the huge vastness and scale of the night sky. Rotations II starts with an expansive opening as the dimming horizon brings out more and more stars and your eyes adjust until this overwhelming awe takes over, like a curtain rising at the start of a show. As the piece develops the night sky slowly rotates overhead. Each variation brings out a new shade of beauty and bewilderment- or a kick of fear and anxiety as the wonders of the night sky are revealed.

Rotations II was written for the Texas Tech University Saxophone Ensemble in the Fall of 2021.
