Rotations III for Woodwind Quintet

$15.00

Rotations 3 is the third piece in a series of works based on cyclical progressions around the entire circle of fifths. This time I wanted to exhaust the idea of rotation, I try to create a 3D world of shifting objects in sound. Beyond the rotating harmony, I fluctuate the tempo frequently, stagger entrances, dynamics, and invert voices to give a similar effect. The opening passage stretches and yawns like the earth slowly turning into the shining sun. Some passages I shrink it down to a tiny swirling field of grass, each blade only moves a bit but the whole field sways like the sea. The wind picks up, the trees are shaking, there's a storm on the horizon. Rotations 3 was written for Zephyria, the Graduate Fellowship Wind Quintet in-residence at the University of Delaware.
